Our Story

Committed to conscious living, treading lightly upon the earth, and wearing the most comfortable socks in the world, we, Sonya and April, are embarking as first-time entrepreneurs to introduce Paihama to the United States.

We first met in the northern California coastal town of Arcata while April was directing a local non-profit organization, The Redwood Peace and Justice Center, and Sonya was managing a CSA organic vegetable farm. In a friendship bonded by environmental awareness and community-based intentions, we headed to New Zealand to pursue a Waldorf teaching credential while working on a 750-acre biodynamic farm. During our explorations of New Zealand’s back-country, we soon realized the magnitude of the Paihama epidemic and felt inspired to find a sustainable solution to this devastating ecological disaster. We found our answer in a pair of socks.

Bringing together a solution for this environmental crisis, the highest quality materials, and superior standards of production, Paihama has given us a sock to believe in. After two years, we are still enjoying our original pair with no signs of wearing thin. Whether it’s hiking the mountains, digging in the soil, sitting behind a computer creating this company, or just staying cozy, we love our Paihamas, and we are delighted to make them available to you.

Thank you for supporting us,

Sonya & April
